From Burton campaign staffer Mat Stutzman:
Working with the Greg Ballard campaign for Mayor offered me a strong reminder of the three building blocks of a successful campaign; hard work, dedication and a positive message. Watching volunteers pour in everyday excited about the job they were doing and
workers pushing themselves everyday to spread the message they believed in. Even after Ballard's opponent turned to flashy negative campaigning, Ballard stuck to his guns. He impressed voters with his straightforward style. He let his beliefs and vision for the city do
the loudest talking. This not only impressed disgruntled voters, it also reinvigorated his campaign crew everyday. The campaign between the Ballard and Peterson eventually came down to one hot topic, leadership. The City of Indianapolis was tired of unfair taxes and a growing number of bad ideas being pushed on them. However, Ballard was a political newcomer who was painted as unqualified and unprepared. Many voters were undecided. The biggest difference between the two campaigns soon was apparent. Ballard wanted us to remain positive about what the city could achieve. His opponent started pulling voters down with his negativity. Voters wanted a change, we offered it to them and they took us up on it.
